Summary:
This is my first review with a new Tech Specs inspired 8-category breakdown. Scores are 1-10, and 6 is average Hasbro baseline (except Character and Bonus).
- Design: 7
- Nice clean look
- Upper body and car mode feel solid
- Painted hupcaps and door handles are nice
- Hollow legs detract from an overall good look
- Character: 9
- Great cartoon likeness in both modes
- Back should have been white, legs should have been silver instead of gray
- Articulation: 5
- Face tilt is a nice touch, also the wrist ball joints
- Mostly standard range of joints and movement
- Placement of knee joints and ankle tilts is weird
- Not that stable standing up
- Accessories: 5
- Nice to finally have his cartoon pistol
- One pistol isn’t much for a Deluxe
- Transformation: 6
- Pretty easy and intuitive
- Some spots don’t stay together all the way
- Quality: 6
- Standard Hasbro materials and quality, no issues
- Bonus: 7
- More than just a bigger PotP Tailgate because it’s the toon look this time
- Face and wrist articulation weren’t necessary, but they put those in anyway
- The pistol isn’t much, but still nice to have for the first time
- Value: 5
- My gut reaction opening the box was “is this all we get for the Deluxe price now?”
Overall, it’s a good cartoon Tailgate. Recommended if you don’t mind it being undersized.
Quick pros & cons:
Pros
- Great toon accuracy in both modes
- Good paint - even the door handles!
Cons
- Undersized for a Deluxe
- Leg articulation is weird
